The Senate adopted by voice vote an amendment to a Watergate reform bill barring top presidential campaign officials from becoming attorney general or deputy attorney general. Harrisburg AP State analysis by TRIP says Pennsylvania could save billions by doubling road maintenance. One third of the 110 634 miles would need rebuild by 1980 if resurfacing stalls. Costs cited include 14.8 billion for reconstruction and 75.5 million annual maintenance.
Westinghouse Electric Corp ends a nationwide strike after unions IUE IBEW and UE approve three-year contracts covering about 84 thousand workers and 16 thousand salaried staff. Wage gains total at least 1.10 per hour over three years with cost of living protection and enhanced benefits. Salaried workers receive 10 percent now plus 4 percent in 1977 and 1978. Negotiations began May 2 and followed GE agreement on improved wages and fringe benefits.
Corry Area High School suffered a second burglary this month with hundreds of dollars in calculators and other items stolen. Police report entry through a basement window and three calculators valued at 652, following a prior break in which four calculators and a radio valued at 650 were taken.
