Old Man Merk on the upwan movement and news
The piece blends a varied local scene from a Bull Run anniversary reply by Governor Arthur H. Jones to a U S Senator Guffey attack with a 1 5 minute address and a 7 minute speech slate. It notes police checks over damaged apple trees and mentions General Electric's six month net income of 16 870 192 and per share figures. It covers theater crowds, a 200 prize, death of Rose Hartwick Thorpe, a misspelled word contest winners, a family disturbance, and price cuts at the New York World’s Fair. It adds notes on Route 6 north rebuilding, factory employment up one percent, inspector petitions, and a July holiday impact on employment services. A series of events include a Stanford Hose club picnic and a Pittsburgh business activity index near 1939 levels.
