Refrigerator Car Ruling to Aid Railroads
Washington July 21 The Interstate Commerce Commission settled a long dispute over privately owned refrigerator cars. It ruled shippers gained unlawful profits from the practice and that future shipments need not be accepted in private cars. The commission said railroad payments to private car owners created unlawful rebates and discounts and that private cars were uneconomical and costly for carriers. Advertising on car exteriors gave private owners an advantage over shippers using ordinary equipment.
