Law Proposed To Defeat Pa Fifth Amendment Foes
Allegheny County District Attorney Robert W. Duggan called for amendments to Pennsylvania obscenity law at the state DA association meeting at Seven Springs. The plan would make injunctions against obscene material permanent unless a hearing is requested within two days, require a hearing within 10 days, and empower courts to order production of alleged obscene material for trial, bypassing search warrants.

FDIC blocks merger of Erie and Titusville banks
The FDIC in Washington denied the proposed merger between Pennsylvania Bank and Trust of Titusville and Union Bank and Trust of Erie. It said the deal would reduce competition and raise banking concentration in western Pennsylvania. The merger had been approved by both banks’ stockholders on June 3, 1971 and by the Pennsylvania Banking Department in August 1971. Leaders from both banks expressed regret and said they will continue to grow independently. No further action is planned at this time.
