James town July 20 Russell Lambert of Mt Lebanon Pa visiting Stow escaped injury when the runabout began to backfire and burst into flames off the steamboat dock in Bemus Point center. The boat owned by Ernest Ott of Pittsburgh was a total loss valued around 800 dollars after Lambert swam to shore as firefighters extinguished the blaze.
In Meadville on July 20 volunteer firefighters blamed a missing inhalator for the drowning of 86 year old William G. Collins of Baegertown. Collins died after being pulled from French Creek near Bradford Bridge at 1 35 a m. Rescue attempts failed. Fire Chief Howard Brown said an inhalator ordered recently and due for delivery today might have saved him. His brother Pearl and neighbor A L Beatty were present along with Collins.
Two robbers stopped two bank messengers near Borland and fled with 26000 dollars in cash and four stacks of postal money orders. Messengers Ted Miller and David Vernoot were transporting funds from the First National Bank of Borland to the post office. Coroner U S Wharton investigated the incident.
