Strike Meeting Set to Push Corry Jamestown Talks

Union negotiators will try again to settle the thirteen week Corry Jamestown strike next Thursday with Mayor J Fred Kinley observing. Incentive pay plan discussions take prominence as details are ironed out while union allegations of reduced take home pay loom. Unofficial estimates place payroll losses around 780000 to date due to suspended payrolls since April 1.

Three Roads to be Repaved in Corry Area

Nine miles of highways in the Corry area are set for resurfacing this summer. The Cory Cutting road will be resurfaced for four miles, the Columbus Sugar Grove road for four and a half miles east of Columbus, and half a mile of Legislative Route 25054 near the Corry Water Co. pump station will also be resurfaced. A warehouse at J W Stephens Lumber firm burned in Sydney, N S, causing about 250000 dollars in damage.

Ship Explodes In Capri Harbor Killing One Crew Member

An explosion aboard the ship Citta Di Sorrento in Capri harbor killed one crewman and injured two others early today. The 350 ton passenger ship that sails between Naples, Sorrento and Capri had been waiting to take aboard 700 tourist passengers when the compressor caused the blast.

Capwell to Resign From City Council

Clair Capwell former streets director candidate for reappointment will resign at next Monday night council meeting after moving from Corry to Columbus. He was appointed after W. W. Waterhouse’s resignation, and prior to him J. Fred Kinley left council. Capwell won a two year term last November and a successor will serve the rest of the term. Two council seats are up for election in fall 1959, including the current finance director Guy Abbey’s post. Capwell’s duties were heavy and praised. finding a replacement who can dedicate similar time will be council’s major task. Columbus Fire Parade Draws 2000 Plus Viewers

A crowd of more than 2,000 turned out in Columbus to see the annual firemen parade with 37 floats and units. Officials praised the event as perhaps the best yet. Afterward crowds filled the fairgrounds for carnival attractions and a matinee for children. All rides were half price 2 to 5 p.m. Fourteen cash awards totaling 235 dollars were handed to winning units including best drum and bugle and best marching unit among others.
