Elty Connell will learn next Monday night how state officials view Council’s refusal to continue with a sewage treatment plant project after cost estimates exceed 1 100 000. J W Harvey, district engineer of the Pennsylvania Department of Health, requested permission to appear before Council in a letter to City Engineer Don Williams. The city’s stand, that the time is inopportune due to rising interest rates and high construction costs, led to halting planning. The Municipal Authority had planned a 660 000 bond issue but took no forward stance, leaving questions about steps the state might take to force the project.
