Sweden's middle way keeps labor peace by give and take
United Press correspondent Webb Miller traces Sweden's industrial peace to a long evolution rooted in a spirit of give and take. He details a system with conciliators, a labor court, strong union and employer organizations, and a shared belief that fair wages and profits benefit both sides, reducing disputes from 261 in 1930 to 60 in 1936.

Bitter fight develops over Erie crossing
Controversy over eliminating the Powell avenue crossing near Erie is set for resolution at a Public Utility Commission hearing in Bre Friday July 22. Local groups favoring an overhead at Powell met at Lakewood School Friday night to name delegates to urge Erie County commissioners to back the project. Delegates told the commissioners that the state highway department has approved plans and that federal funds and other earmarked money support the work. Powell avenue is reportedly the only grade crossing in the state to be placed on the federal program this year despite opposition from a few manufacturers.
