The mirror belonged to Robert Hill and a Florida license owner was nearby.
In a letter from the War Department SGT Bet Prank F Carnpine son of Mr and Mrs John Carnpine of 820 West Wayne Street was killed during the Normandy invasion on D Day. He had served over two years and left home Feb 18 1949 for training. He sailed overseas Sept 1949 and was 28. The Corry Bay unit promoted him rapidly during training and his mother received the May - letter a week before his death. Further details awaited from France.
William Sidis, once hailed as a child prodigy for finishing seven grades in six months and graduating Harvard at 16, dies at 46 in Boston. An unemployed clerk for decades, he lived reclusively in a rooming house and traveled daily to a job before losing his last month ago.
In a July 17 incident at a Philadelphia state prison, convict Steven Saunders, 27, serving a murder term, wounded guard Edwin Lichtenberger, 35, with a homemade axe-like weapon and then killed himself. Saunders died in a pool of blood in his cell, the guard injured with a deep forehead wound and expected to survive. a note from Saunders suggested a substituted prisoner and noted meticulous behavior.
