Highway Spokesmen Say Bypass Here Cannot Be Another Thruway
Two officials from the State Highway Department Franklin office told The Journal that the inspector title has misled about construction work on the Route 6 bypass. They noted no Civil Service in 1958 when the Thruway began, and that many summer workers labeled inspectors are now engineering assistants handling simple tasks under engineers. They praised college students for their brightness and explained rapid changes in construction require more engineer assistants to keep up with progress and accuracy.
