Senate Debates Profits Tax Bill Passes House Extension

Associated Press reports the House approved a six month extension of the excess profits tax to bolster President Eisenhower's 1953 agenda. Senate action was swift while House members, led by Daniel Reed, opposed the levy, but leaders foresee the bill reaching the president's desk soon. The tax allows up to 82 percent of corporate profits taxed, with a cap ensuring combined taxes do not exceed 70 percent of income. The levy expired June 30 but can be renewed retroactively.
