Russians Repulse Nazis at Voronezh Battlefield
Soviet reports claim Nazi forces were repulsed at Voronezh as Red Army units repelled counter-attacks. Several enemy assaults were beaten back in other sectors, with Soviet artillery and anti-tank guns destroying tanks. Big Bend area south of Boguchar saw heavy fighting as troops halted a Nazi infantry regiment, killing hundreds. German attempts to cross the Don were met with strong Soviet air and ground resistance, though both sides warned the battle would endure. The Don valley battle area, including east-bank fighting, is described as contested with heavy losses on both sides.
