Jury Deadlock in Minnie Ratey Will Contest
For a second time a Jamestown jury could not reach a verdict on the Minnie D. Ratey will contest in Sherman. The panel reported deadlocked at 8:30 p.m. and Judge Ottaway discharged them until Monday. The $12,000 estate would pass to two daughters, Sarah L. Rater and Ida M. Mason, who seek probate defeat. Proponent Harald A. Cornell faced contestants represented by Harry M. Young and Joseph A. Luzarony with Willard W. Sass as special guardian for Louise Mason. Verdict question: Was Mrs. Rater competent when she made the will? Seven jurors said no, five yes. A prior April 1981 trial also ended in disagreement. Settlement noted in Ellen Warner estate matter.
