Pa Liquor Stores To Close Tomorrow If No Agreement
Harrisburg AP. Liquor clerks threaten to close all state stores in Pennsylvania Friday if a meeting with Gov. Shapp fails to resolve deadlocked contract talks. Union says more than half of the state's 750 stores may close today with additional strikes looming across 28 counties. The two year contract expired June 30, and key dispute centers on job security and a clause preventing the state from exiting the liquor business unless a successor abides by the contract. Shapp favors privatizing liquor sales and has ordered feasibility studies. The Liquor Control Board typically shuts stores without supervisory staff when strikes occur.
