Corry and Joint Boards Consider School Transfer Plan

Superintendent Elsen proposes transferring 71 sixth graders from Conelway to Wright to relieve Wright shortages and adjust class sizes. The plan would create four sixth grades totaling 133 students at Wright, with nine fifth graders moved to Conelway to form two sections of 33 and three sections of 35 at Conelway and Cord, respectively. Corry Board members argue transfers are a Corry control, while the Joint Committee sees it as joint action. Concerns arise that rural board shortcomings push urban schools toward crowding, risking cuts to art and music programs.
