A hurricane hunting satellite was launched from Cape Canaveral aboard a Thor Delta rocket at 4 25 am to study the development of monster tropical storms. The TIROS I satellite orbited about 400 miles high, with tracking stations in Australia California and Virginia reporting signs of a successful initial pass. A Czech airliner en route to West Africa struck a power line and exploded while approaching Casablanca. The crash follows another Tyushin-18 disaster near Nuernberg earlier this year.
Denver AP report details a United DC-3 crash at Stapleton Airport killing 17 aboard and injuring many others. The jetliner, en route from Philadelphia to Los Angeles with several stops, skidded off the runway and burst into flames after landing Tuesday noon. Among the dead are Henry Blom, 42, Civil Engineer, and six members of the Bart Geyer family of Port Lyons. Passengers totaled 105 with several infants aboard. multiple names associated with Torrance California and Willow Grove Pennsylvania appear among the victims.

Midas 11, the first missile alarm satellite, launched from Point Arguello California through fog. The 1,500 pound craft with an infrared sensor aims to detect hostile missile launches from space, providing near instant warnings. Flight details indicate uncertain orbit status pending postlaunch reports.
In Denver a DEA jet crash killed two Pennsylvania men and the three children of a former Pennsylvanian woman. Earl Linne 38 of Suburban Malvern a GE Philadelphia consulting engineer and George Hambrscht 28 of Wilton Grove an attorney for Smith Kline and French were identified as dead. Cindy Guyer Ann 4 and Jill 1 children of Mrs Nancy Guyer 38 formerly of Picture Lake Williamsport now Ft Lyons were listed as dead. The woman was missing and presumed dead.
The Corry Chamber of Commerce unanimously awarded CAID C a $600 prize from two $300 checks earned in the Pennsylvania Community Development Contest. The awards, won with industrial development and city beautification entries, must be reinvested locally. The board also approved cooperation on a travel guide project and noted an upcoming sidewalk sale event in mid August.

Kent 34 charged with surety of the peace after allegedly threatening to kill his stepson. Cpl John Hornick said Kent left for Florida for a rest and expected to return in two to three weeks. He was arrested by Stam Police after a domestic quarrel with his wife and released on bond. The August 11 court session may address examination for Kent at Union City.
An official stated that Pennsylvania National Guard units are in excellent shape regarding numbers and readiness. He emphasized the guard has never been in better condition and remains well prepared for duty.
Mrs Charlene Sullivan of Levittown and her four month old son Russell Philip Jr escaped the United Airlines crash in Denver via an escape chute. Sullivan and baby were aided by family friend Tack Barnes, who drove the Sullivans to Philadelphia and later to the airport. The mother held the infant as the craft skidded and a fire erupted. both survived and were examined at a hospital.
Police linked two crimes to a 13 year old boy and two Corry men. The youth allegedly burglarized an apartment owned by Dennis Rockafellow and stole from a business and home. Officers later caught the suspects on the street as they fled the scene and found money and a device used to dial service calls. Investigators pursued further charges and planned court appearances.
