Fry Leads in Michigan Democratic Primary for Governor
Dethus, say 14-michigan Democrats in Tuesday's primary selected Edward J. Fry of Fremont, former state racing commissioner, to oppose Republican Governor Jeery P. Kelly for re election in November. Kelly was unopposed for the Republican nomination. With more than two thirds of Tuesday's Democratic vote counted, William J. Cody, Fry's nearest rival, conceded defeat at noon today. The second part notes cigarette shortage persists due to war, tax free overseas shipments, and leaf tobacco inventories.
