Come-and-Go island of Falcon Island in the South Pacific
The come-and-go island of the South Pacific, first sighted in 1860 by the ship Falcon and other vessels, appeared and vanished multiple times. It grew, vanished by 1880, reappeared five years later, and faded again by 1894 before briefly rising for two more years. In 1827 it reappeared and was later explored by scientists who found volcanic pumice and ash, soon worn away by water and wind.
