Dem Commissioner Backs GOP County Fiscal Plan
Erie County commissioner William C. Hill Jr defends the Republican administration against perceived fiscal criticism while County Commissioner Chairman Fred W. Lamberton opposes a bond issue to cover the year end deficit. The board begins repaying more than 2 million borrowed to cover pending county tax receipts, with 200000 in loans repaid. The 1968 deficit exceeds 900000, including nearly 800000 in 1967 loans and a 40000 1967 bill. Hill calls the controller a doomsayer, insists he backs the administration, and notes any fault would be corrected. A 10 year bond to repay 1968 debt is considered, continuing the practice that has strained local districts.
