Employment Level Stays Steady In Pa
Pennsylvania's employment level remains a weak spot in a strong economy. Ned Shilling of Penn State notes jobs recovered only to pre-recession levels and have not risen much in two years. The May unemployment rate fell below 6 percent due to more jobs, not a shrinking labor force. Steel output stayed high at over 26 million tons, with coal production rising sharply. The tax cut appears to boost consumer spending as department store sales beat forecasts in Pennsylvania metros.
