In Bogalusa Louisiana a white man shot during a civil rights march. 200 state troopers aided 36 local officers amid protests. Alton Crowe Jr. 25 was wounded and hospitalized. two Black men, Henry Austin 21 and Milton Johnson 26, were detained for aggravated battery. Marines Hit Viet Cong On An Hoa Island

U S Marines landed amphibiously off Chu Lai to trap a Viet Cong force that overran a Vietnamese naval headquarters. A U S Navy destroyer moved to An Hoa to prevent sea escape. Four U S Army advisers were reported missing after an ambush near Sai gon. Casualty figures cited: 151 killed, 25 wounded, 59 missing from the government force.

Corry Man Pleads Guilty to Forgery in Warren County

Corry resident John L. Broughton 136 Seneca Street pleaded guilty before Judge Alexander C. Flick Jr to two forgery counts in Warren County. Sentencing set for July 23 after his June 28 arrest by Sheriff deputies following handwriting comparison on forged checks. Police linked the case to a third check in Falconer New York and an earlier 1957 arrest for VFW Club robbery.

Paul Mantz aged 61 died when a plane crash during filming for Flight of the Phoenix occurred 17 miles west of Yuma Arizona. Boy 10 Hurt Near Corry In Bike Car Crash

A 10 year old boy, Dennis B. Carter, was admitted to Corry Memorial Hospital with severe scalp lacerations and scrapes after his bicycle collided with a car on West Columbus Avenue extension, six miles east southeast of Cody. The car was driven by Howard J. Wurst, 52, of Erie, returning from a golf course project his firm is building. Damage to the bike and car was estimated at 15 dollars.

Beers Dumped Offshore Wash Ashore on Fire Island

Suffolk County police report beer cans washing ashore on Fire Island after Shafer Brewing Co dumped thousands of cans due to slight leaks. A spokesman confirmed the dumping last week and a storm brought the cans ashore between Kismet and the Coast Guard station at the island’s south end.
