Soviets may struggle to grow enough grain by 1980

A four member Agriculture Department team warned that the Soviet Union will likely fail to meet growing livestock feed needs by 1980 through expanded cultivation alone. It urged higher yields of grains, forages and oilseeds and suggested imports from world markets will probably be necessary to maintain livestock goals. The team noted plans for an interfarm system with large, cooperative feed complexes and emphasized milk would remain centered on collective farms.

Charges Dropped On Technicality

County President Judge Howard H. Carney said he followed the edicts of the U.S. Supreme Court and Pennsylvania Supreme Court in dropping charges against Howard Cox of Erie. The case centered on a technical matter involving companion cases and a misdemeanor charge of failure to yield. The DUI charge was deemed improper as the summary offense should have proceeded differently under the high court rulings.
