Bi metalism and what it means today in coinage debate
A compact overview traces the old bi metalism argument from Bryan’s 1886 push to modern advocacy by Frank J. Cannon. It defends free silver against the gold standard, cites historical ratios, and argues for restoring silver coinage to balance currency and foster global economic stability. It emphasizes the 15,088 to 1 silver to gold ratio and critiques the 1873 act ending silver coinage. It highlights silver as essential for developing markets and national finance while contrasting gold’s perceived sanctity with silver’s natural value.
