An 18th century Philadelphia physician, Philip Physick, born 1768, rises from student to hospital staff to leading surgeon. He helps end a yellow fever outbreak in 1797 and pioneers sterile water use and the early bottled spa drink industry. He studies with John Hunter in London and Edinburgh, later shaping medical practice and public health in America.
