City to join protest against Penelec rate hike

Corry City Council members debated opposing a 23 percent rate increase for the Pennsylvania Electric Company and higher state official salaries. Finance director Benjamin Calderone proposed Corry ante up about 400 dollars to hire an attorney if the fight reaches court, arguing city taxpayers and businesses deserve protection amid inflationary pressures. The discussion noted federal guidelines of 5.5 percent but focused on local impact and funding for potential legal action.

Association May Have Misled Lawyer

Douglas Rozelle told City Council that members of the Concerned Homeowners Association may have misled their attorney by supplying information on a Zoning Board of Adjustment meeting. The group, led by Lawrence Chelley, argues the meeting was illegal for lacking a room number in the public notice for a 50 unit housing project on South Center Street Hill. Rozelle said listing a room number was unnecessary in the Municipal Building and questioned a claimed conflict of interest involving secretary Stewart A. Long.
