Storms Leave Pittsburgh Area In Dark
Western Pennsylvania communities faced prolonged power outages after a severe storm with lightning and heavy rain. Winds over 60 mph felled lines and trees, though about 90 percent of outages in Allegheny and Beaver counties were restored within four hours. At Allegheny County airport, winds overturned two light planes and pushed a second aircraft together. Police described trees and lines down, windows shattered, but no injuries reported. The Weather Bureau logged 100 mph winds on Lake Erie as rescue crews retrieved several trapped individuals.
