Last of Old Feed Mills Razed in Local Town History
The closing of Corry’s early feed mills marks a shift as salerooms exit with the sale of bran and elute to B. E. Love. Manuel from Hage Caireo sold 100 pounds of bran and 160 pounds of elute at 123 dollars to Love. Vincent Doolittle, son-in-law of W. A. Dodd, stayed briefly. Dodd ran the mill until 1915 when he sold to B. H. VanTassel. VanTassel operated six years, then sold to Mr. Barnham in 1921. Parahat ceased operations, ending a local retail era before tractors and electricity changed commerce. Other mills nearby included Duand Beebe, Merrics on West Washington, N. Obden & Sand on North Center, and Heath’s mill on North Center, many razed or repurposed in years following.
