Heavy spring rains promise record huckleberry crop in Pennsylvania
Harrisburg reports say the season for huckleberries will be the heaviest in years due to a favorable spring and abundant rainfall. The crop supports thousands’ welfare across the state, especially in anthracite and bituminous regions, with families earning up to 250 dollars per season while camps dot the picking areas. Pennsylvania grows seven species with black buckberry as the key commercial variety, rooted on rocky hillsides, yielding light blue to glossy black fruit.
