The Salvation Army plans to buy and remodel the old VFW building on East Washington Street to shelter its officers. Budget would rely on World War I era profits and now-banned slot machine income, with local fundraising likely to cover about 40 percent of the $70,000 to $40,000 remaining repair cost. The VFW would run its bar and bowling alleys until the transfer, date to be set, while SA funds and other headquarters support are arranged.
