Park for Arts Opens At Wolf Trap Farm Park
A new performing arts site opens in Virginia's Wolf Trap Farm Park near Washington with the National Park Service hosting the first concert. Mrs. Jouett Shouse, financier and patron, led the effort after urging Stewart Udall to create spaces for arts within the park system. The project includes a cedar amphitheater seating 3,500, an unpainted stage house, and extensive grass seating for 3,000 more, supported by Wolf Trap Farm Foundation and American University. The National Symphony, with guests Van Cliburn and Norman Triegle, will perform as opening acts amid a 650000 fire loss last March that nearly delayed the July 1 opening.
