Man Kills Two Detectives After Siege Ends
In Pawtucket a former mental patient, Robert Genereux, 35, shot and killed Lt. Thomas H. Truesdale, 58, and Detective Fimil Newberg, 56, during a house siege after hours of refusal to surrender. Police entered to find Genereux hiding in a bedroom closet as officers fired through the home with machine guns and tear gas. Genereux had initially resisted surrender after neighbors reported he fired into an adjacent unoccupied flat. His mother had already surrendered a shotgun, a rifle, and two revolvers, but Genereux refused to give up a third pistol. Charges to be considered tomorrow.
