Market unsettled by Amer Telephone weak after recovery

New York Jan 31 United Press reports American Telephone weakened after a brief market recovery driven by steel shares. New England Telephone’s 1937 net income of 5.88 a share raised dividend jeopardy rumors, while other names such as American Carriers, T&T and various industrials moved with speculative chatter and fluctuating prices across listings. The market showed volatility as investors weighed earnings and dividend prospects amid uncertain demand. The piece ends with a fable excerpt about the cat’s paw.
