Long Distance Phone Rates Rise If FCC Approves
Washington AP reports AT&T filed for rate adjustments predicting a raise in monthly bills on Feb 12. Residential bills may rise about 10 cents, business customers about $2 monthly, with higher costs for short distance calls and operator-assisted long distance. A Chicago to San Francisco three minute direct dialed call would drop to 80 cents, while operator-assisted would rise to 2.15. AT&T says hikes reflect a return to long distance costs near 1953 levels.
