Delay Picking Architects For State Projects
Harrisburg AP The General State Authority has delayed selection of architects and engineers for 39.4 million dollars in new state projects to study a possible merger with the Department of Property and Supplies. Governor Shapp, chairing the GSA, cited a two week postponement. Republican leader Butera questioned the delay, calling it a masking tactic amid long running debates about phasing out the GSA. Ed Mitchell said four Democratic board members held an informal briefing in Shapp’s office prior to the meeting, not open to reporters. Names cited include Mrs Harold Burgard, Mrs Robert Hill, Mrs Richard Bakerink, Mrs Harvey King, and Mrs John Faulkner. Last Thursday the Southwestern Chautauqua Medical Clinic Advisory Group met at the Dutch Village Restaurant with participants from Sherman, Clymer, Mina, and French Creek.

People Prefer Driving Alone Says University Sociologist
Seattle AP A bicycle riding sociologist from the University of Washington argues most people choose to travel solo rather than car pool. Dr Avery Guest cites data from 98 U.S. metropolitan areas showing workers and families value quiet time, independence, and daydreaming during commutes.
