Fixation of Wages in Future Main Problem
United Press Philadelphia January 30. Wage fixation in future disputes remains the sole contested issue in coal strike talks. Operators demand compulsory arbitration while miners propose a conciliatory commission with recommendation powers only. Miners seek a five year contract with immediate resumption at old wages through September 1 1828, then potential change via a fact finding commission chaired by Hughes, Davis, and Pinchot. Cooperation on efficiency and a voluntary checkoff are offered by miners. Operators show little sign of retreat from arbitration.
