GECAC Offers One Time Emergency Fuel Aid Program

GECAC will pay fuel bills for destitute residents under an Emergency Energy Program. Walter Osborne said aid prioritizes coal oil and propane for emergencies, then gas bills. Eligibility is case by case considering income family size housing, with some applicants denied. GECAC has separately received 5 500 dollar grants this year and last year, and state agencies plus Erie Civil Defense and Red Cross are coordinating to prepare for severe winter demand and potential housing needs.

A blizzard shuts down western Pennsylvania roads with zero visibility. Erie County authorities close all routes as interstates 79 and 80 grind to a near standstill. Nab Snowsled Driver Arrested After Patrol Pursuit

A city police officer was slightly injured as officers Rhodes and Goodman attempted to intercept a snowsled on Mead avenue. The driver, Tim J. Wetmore, 19, of Columbus, was charged with registration violations, reckless driving, and city ordinance 1150 after being found on Marion street. Wetmore claimed he did not know why he fled.

Freddie Prinze Shot In Head In Suspected Suicide

Los Angeles AP Freddie Prinze the 22 year old Chico and the Man star was listed in serious to critical condition after a self inflicted gunshot wound at Beverly Comstock hotel in West Los Angeles. A note was found but its contents were not released. He had been despondent Thursday night and underwent treatment from physicians and his psychiatrist as friends and family gathered. The shooting occurred about 3 30 a m as he reached into the sofa and fired an automatic pistol. His wife Katherine had filed for divorce last month and they have a 14 month old son.

Two Hurt in Bear Lake Route 957 Crash

A two car collision at 11245 last night near Columbus caused minor injuries to two people and about 1800 dollars in vehicle damage. Mrs. Fred Carter of Bear Lake and Brian Lausier of Bear Lake were the drivers. The Carter car slid into the Lausier car while passing on an icy road. Carter was treated and released from Corry Memorial Hospital. Husier, a passenger, had facial cuts but was not treated.
