Crossing Work To Cost Millions Erie Mayor Outlines Plan
Erie Mayor Arthur Gardner announced a grade crossing elimination plan with an estimated total cost of 2.4 million dollars. Financing would divide among the city state and railroads, with the city likely funding via an electoral bond issue and voters deciding the measure. Four projects were discussed including crossings at 6th and Wayne 8th and Weschler 19th and Peach and 19th Parade streets. The 6th and Wayne project previously drew PUC hearings and was briefly killed due to past officials and ward politics. City Engineer Fred Gorenfo cited a 600 thousand dollar estimate for the First Ward plan.
