GOPs Challenge Shapp Selections in Pennsylvania Supreme Court
Three Republican senators ask the State Supreme Court to take original jurisdiction in a suit challenging about 700 gubernatorial appointments by Gov. Shapp made without Senate confirmation during the New Year recess. The plaintiffs contend the actions were illegal since the House did not join Senate adjournment, keeping the legislature in session. Names: Richard Frame, Newell Wood, and Richard Tilghman. The suit seeks faster appeal by moving to the Supreme Court. In a separate note, East Berlin calendar omits July 11.
