Alaska Flood Aid Draws Fire Over SBA Disaster Loan Criteria
In the wake of August floods in Fairbanks the SBA tightened disaster loan criteria. The largest loan, $894,000, went to Golden Nugget Motel owner L. Donald Pruhs, a Democratic official. Governor Hickel’s Travelers Inn received about $623,400. Officials deny partisanship, but critics cite political patterns and call for closer scrutiny and tighter verification processes.
