650 Gallon Stench Plant Mishap Puts Oil Into Sewers

City officials seek disposal for 650 gallons of fuel oil spilled into the sewer system yesterday. Fire and police agencies canvassed streets and manholes on the south and west sides after fumes alerted residents. Cooper-Penjax officials said a faulty return line on a new boiler allowed oil to enter the sewer, with the plant having recently switched to fuel oil for energy. Authorities continued to investigate the incident and autopsy for a missing Warren State Hospital patient found later in a crawl space.
