Mystery Shrouds Gasoline Loss In Nearby Clymer
Residents of Clymer New York ponder the disappearance of 10000 gallons of gasoline from an underground tank last weekend. The loss was first noticed Monday when a Garret H TenPas Oil driver tried to fill his truck. Mobil Oil officials were not notified until Wednesday. Fire Chief James Lictus said he learned of the potential explosion risk only yesterday. Local fear focused on vapor buildup and fire danger as investigators traced a truck delivery Saturday showing the tank was packed full. An explosives reading was used as the fire coordinator and responders searched for vapor accumulation near sites including a dry well by the highway department. Officials discounted fears the gasoline reached the Corry water supply, noting checks at pumping stations would detect any residue. The coordinated probe continued as crews checked likely vapor accumulation points.
