Barge Drifts Down Allegheny Halting Hazards
A large unmanned sand barge broke from Warren and drifted south along the Allegheny River. It passed near Tidioute and Oil City, with an attempt to snag it near Oil City failing. The Pennsylvania Railroad placed 16 coal cars on the Oil City bridge to ease potential damage. The barge grounded five miles south of Oil City at Reno. George W. Burlingame, 62, of North Center Street, was admitted to Corry Memorial Hospital for a fractured left hip after a home fall. The forecast calls for colder temperatures with possible light snow flurries early in the week. The Rosary service for Mrs. Anastolsia Bystricki is scheduled at Bracken Funeral Home with Mass at St Elizabeth's Church. The Warren Times Mirror considered emergency steps as floodwaters receded.
