Unions Claim Huge Tax Refunds to Steel Industry
CIO USW chief holds press conference claiming the steel industry will receive 200 million dollars in rebates under a 20 percent refund provision of the tax. He says another 149 million could come from back tax provisions slipped through Congress if no profits are made in 1946, totaling 349 million as guaranteed profits above pre war earnings. Treasury has already received 8.5 million in claims under another provision.
