Prisoners May Have To Reimburse State
A proposed measure in the Pennsylvania legislature would require financially able inmates to reimburse the state for living expenses and contribute to their upkeep. The bill, the prison reimbursement act, aims to cut the $3,000,000 annual confinement bill and mirrors Michigan's approach. If passed, officials would review the finances of about 6500 inmates across state penitentiaries, the boys industrial school at Huntingdon, the state training school at Morganza, and the industrial home for women at Muncy.
