Arctic cold wave tightens grip across flood struck Midwest
Arctic weather from Canada drives temperatures below zero from Chicago to Texas, halting life in flood swept sectors. In Arkansas about 500 families marooned, pets suffer, and supplies run low as rescuers move to aid stranded residents near Vincennes Indiana. At St Vincent’s Hospital the planned 200 room expansion is approved for study, aiming to create a 400 plus room facility. A blizzard spreads through western Pennsylvania and Oklahoma, with deaths reported in Illinois and Missouri as authorities struggle to provide food and shelter to the displaced and stranded residents.
