Burned Out Fuse Dynamite Found By Cop
New York police found a dynamite bomb with a charred fuse during a security check at a West 100th Street station house. Patrolman John Ausderan, 32, spotted four inches of fuse protruding from a brown paper bag containing five eight-inch sticks of explosives. The officer dampened the fuse to ensure no spark remained, nearby gasoline pumps highlighting the danger. Regular checks follow an earlier blast that damaged a Harlem station and two home made bombs found in patrol car gas tanks.

Four U.S. bases hit as Saigon endures intensified attacks
Saigon reports four U.S. bases and twelve South Vietnamese installations were hit Sunday night in intensified assaults. Eight Americans killed, 35 wounded, nine helicopters damaged by mortar fragments. South Vietnamese camps sustained lighter casualties. Authorities link the attacks to Paris peace talks. Military units seized over four tons of ammunition near the Cambodian border. Intelligence hints at a planned winter offensive timed with the Washington inauguration, though some sources dispute these claims.
