Bank Employes Steal 9000 and Forge Names at Utica Bank
Two young bank employees Lynn C. Water King and John B. Dowling, trusted tellers at Utica First National Bank, are jailed on robbery and forgery charges. They confessed to stealing about 9000, concealing 5000 in a coal bin and 3900 elsewhere, using forged endorsements of well known citizens to cover deposits. The scam involved falsified accounts and forged notes, with 1200 borrowed on a note bearing two endorsements later written by Dowling. A separate report notes a distressed vessel likely lost near Flamborough after a beacon flare.
