Gas Shortage Cuts Toll Revenue for Turnpike Authorities
An Associated Press survey shows the gasoline shortage has reduced highway travel and toll collections, with the East and Northeast hit hardest. In December 1973 preliminary figures show about a 10 percent drop, prompting some authorities to consider maintenance cuts while not yet cancelling road projects. The Massachusetts Turnpike Authority reported main road revenues fall from 1,897,507 in December 1972 to 1,696,292, an 11 percent decline, and extension revenues were down about 5 percent.
