Mrs Farold Patchen a well known Spartadiaburg resident was reported in serious condition after an early week assault at the home of friends. She suffered multiple fractures including a broken jaw and other injuries. No information from the attending doctor and no arrests announced.
The American Red Cross begins a large blood drive to support Navy needs as Philadelphia is named a key blood plasma reservoir hub. Volunteering donors will contribute blood to be processed into plasma within 24 hours and routed to military hospitals nationwide under new national and Army plans.
Harrisburg January 17 The Pennsylvania Federation of Labor allied with the CIO to oppose a sabotage prevention bill. Opponents argue the measure would curtail the right to picket and dues collection at plants handling national defense orders. Federation president Wames L McDevitt said sabotage prevention is fine but urged protections for workers rights amid vague provisions.
London January 17 Associated Press dispatch quotes Beith Minister Malcolm MacDonald calling for more nurses amid manpower strain. He warns that fewer fighters will be needed in coming months and stresses nurses must not be neglected while war wounded receive attention.
Reports confirm Reneau of the Northwest District is reassigned as district secretary for the M. G. A. of Pennsylvania, succeeding Elmer Wiseman. Reneau will base headquarters in Corry, pausing a broad program growth, with Rev. Duke assisting as associate district secretary. State association meeting set for Hartsburg.
