Relief List Continues Decline First Week of 1940
The Pennsylvania general assistance rolls eased further in the first week of 1940, with total cases around 242,000. Factors include private employment gains, transfers to old age and dependent child programs, and shifts between federal and state aid. The week saw a net offset from private employment reductions and new enrollments in old age programs, as transfers influenced overall help.
